Outplacement Services
At Washington Career Services, we customize our outplacement services to meet specific transition needs for each organization and each employee. We recognize that someone who has been downsized might need support with resume writing, job search strategies, and overall support in regards to figuring out his or her next career move. We provide ongoing one-on-one career counseling with trained career professionals. Individual programs include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

- Conduct intake to determine transition and career needs.
- Counsel each individual to effectively deal with the emotional aspects of making the transition out of an organization and into the work market.
- Conduct career assessments (ex. MBTI, Strong, and Firo-B) and identify key marketable strengths, abilities and interests.
- Review and discuss career assessment results, including as talents, passions, and values and begin to create a Career Action Plan.
Resume Development
- In combination with the self-assessment, discuss your specific career interest areas and what we can do to effectively align your experiences and skill-sets.
- Highlight your most marketable transferable skills.
- Customize your resume to insure the employer has a clear understanding of who you are, what you accomplished in each position, and why you would be the best candidate to fit the opening in their company.
Research, Planning and Networking
- Using assessment results, help each individual target and develop their networking plan to reach out to appropriate industries, organizations and other contacts.
- Provide career workbook, Career Action Plans, and on-line resources to identify potential positions, to research and contact hiring organizations and to track search actions and progress.
- Research and develop a targeted list of appropriate executive recruiters and search firms.
- Counsel each individual on how to work effectively with executive recruiters and search firms.
- Assist individual with interpreting and responding to positions.
Interviewing, Negotiating and Closing
- Train and coach individuals in effective online and in-person networking, interviewing and negotiating techniques.
- Support and track progress with the job search through on-going individual coaching and counseling.
- Prep individual for interviews and other important job search opportunities. Debrief individual after interviews and meetings, including constructing appropriate follow-up actions.

- 50% of employers now offer outplacement to their employees as part of predetermined severance packages — up from 2017.
- Since 2017, the number of companies that actively monitor employer brand sites—such as Glassdoor and Indeed — has increased by 10%.
- 25% of the companies surveyed said that they offer severance pay to project an “employee-first” company culture.
